Spain Digital Nomad Visa for Remote Workers

Spain's Digital Nomad Visa

Spain's Digital Nomad Visa lets you live in Spain while continuing the remote job or freelance work you already have, as long as your employer or clients are based outside Spain. It doesn't help you find a job it legalizes a stay once you already have remote income lined up.

There's no language requirement at all, and no restricted job list. IT, marketing, design, consulting, writing, finance, and customer support all qualify, along with most other remote professions.

Your spouse and children can join you, with the income requirement adjusted for family size. Qualifying applicants can also elect a flat 24% tax rate on income up to €600,000 a year, for up to 6 tax years.

This visa also builds toward something longer-term — residency after 5 years, and citizenship possible after 10 (Spanish only becomes relevant at that later stage). If you already have stable remote income, let's see if you qualify.

A Few Things That Trip People Up
  • Your job or clients must be outside Spain — a role with a Spanish company would be regular local employment, not this visa

  • Choosing your application route matters — applying from outside Spain gets a 1-year visa, applying from within Spain can get a 3-year permit

  • The tax benefit must be elected early — generally within 6 months of registering with Spanish Social Security

  • Open to applicants from any country, outside the EU/EEA — it's about where your income comes from, not your nationality

  • Proof of remote employment or freelance client contracts (showing income source outside Spain)
